If dancing is power, dancing is mourning, dancing is outrage, dancing is soaring.

These Papers Were Mountains. These Embers Were Ashes - 2025

In a sequence in which time is reversed and slowed down, we see a figure in movement. She is dancing with materials which were previously used to evoke rocks, boulders, mountains. Reminiscent of ashes rising up from a fire, these unexpected dance partners now appear as transient and weightless as they once did immutable. Evoking loss and endings, as well as continued affection and relations. The video approaches stop motion, yet draws the viewer into what appears to be a continuous back and forth. Hair, limbs and paper are all propelled to move into ever new directions and shapes, a dance in which it is no longer clear who is leading who.

In one of the sequences we see the figure gently placing paper sheets (boulders, embers, ashes) around herself as they keep floating upwards, rearranging themselves. As the video loops back onto itself her gestures are inevitably repeated with the same care and attention.
