Choreographies of Care and Resistance

The title Choreographies of Care and Resistance groups a series of performative drawings which explore the tensions between care and resistance, vulnerability and strength, and our (in)ability to carry or be carried. The large drawings that set the stage in many of the works in this series carry markings of charcoal, locally sourced river clay and pastel crayons. As in my other work this series also addresses the creative process itself. A way of bearing witness to the intimacy between the known and the unknown, the moment and the material, and to putting oneself at stake in order to bring something new into being. The purposeful amplification of color in these works coincides with the emergence this new line of artistic inquiry, which continues to shape my practice.
