Upcoming exhibit: Buddies at Gallery Herenplaats

Opening January 2026

This fall I will be working with one of the artists from Atelier Herenplaats in Rotterdam in the run up to the third edition of Buddies. Buddies is a Biennial exhibition in which a number of contemporary artists are invited to respond to the work of one of the artists from Atelier Herenplaats and exhibit their work alongside each other. For the time being I won’t give away much, other than that, like me, the person I have paired up with enjoys working in black and white and so far there is an inspiring sense of serendipity to our meeting.

About the exhibit

Exploring resonance, contrast, tension and difference, Buddies is a biennial exhibition in which several artists from diverse disciplines pair up with artists from Atelier Herenplaats. The participating artists are invited to select works from the collection of Atelier Herenplaats and/or work with one of the resident artists. The exhibit will offer scope for a meaningful discussion about the content and meaning of contemporary outsider art in relation to mainstream contemporary art.

About Atelier Herenplaats

Herenplaats offers a customised art program for talented people who aren’t able to take part in regular art education due to an intellectual disability or psychiatric background. Classes are taught by visual artists and art teachers. Successful graduates of the academy can become part of the artist collective at the Herenplaats. Besides the shared facilities there are indivdual workplaces and a gallery which presents exhibits of international artist.
